About this event:
Introducing the First Course of our French Popular Culture Series:
Les Chansonniers: Poetry and Protest in the Modern Era
In keeping with our mission to promote an appreciation of the French language and Francophone cultures, the Alliance Française is launching a new series of lecture courses this semester, focused on French popular culture.
In the first unit of the series, you will hear songs from French singer/songwriters following in the tradition of the original bards, who with their instruments and voices satirized the society of their day. Whether it be the plight of France’s immigrants, protests against the death penalty, or the “metoo” movement, French modern-day lyricists have engaged us in the political and social reality of their time.
Come join TESS CIEUX for 4 sessions, conducted in French: a 1 hour long, lecture and Q&A, at 10 a.m. each Wednesday morning, from October 28th to November 18th, 2020.
